Hey Mr. Barrett! Keep those Jalop comments coming! Doug.

I was waiting anxiously for your insight on the Top Gear US crew profiles. Specifically, the DIY blonde guy, whom many crucified as a concession to the female/gay crowd. I disagree w/ the gay part, but given the HG channel connection, I can't help think of a bored housewife watching syndicated reruns about how her driving the Suburban alone is a waste of gas, lol...
You should check it out. (Unfortunately, it's one of the ever-growing threads that diverges into name-calling and political agendas)

Please stop plugging Treasure Island Media in your comments. We don't know if you're affiliated with the company, but it's at the point where it's getting dangerously close to spam.

Thanks.

Wow… way to play the gay card. I'll admit it was a lame attempt at humour that Kumho rhymes with Homo and the thought of tires that smell like flowers is, well… kinda gay. However I'm not going to sit here and defend myself trying to convince everyone that I'm not a homophobe or that I require diversity training, or even that I feel you're turning a nudge, blatant or not, into heterosexism. I have gay and lesbian friends that are an important part of my life and who I am far more vicious with, as they are with me. However, I would regret it if anyone that read my post and was actually offended by my comments.

you strike me as a very intelligent man who has a brilliantly subtle sense of humor; and that i have an immense amount of respect for!

am always happy to see your comments!

Aha! Thank you for your kind words re. QED... Alas, it is simply a cunning ruse to conceal my inner simplicity. No, I'm not involved in anything nearly as academic as that, but I do have a passion for words, their use and the pleasures you can derive from them. Think of the works of P.G Wodehouse and Douglas Adams for a peephole into my utopian view of the English language... Incidentally: By qualification I am a Car Designer (Degree from Coventry University, as yet unsuccessful finding employment) By trade post-uni I started off as a Sales Exec for BMW for two years, after a career break of 4 months, and starting Monday I am a Sales Exec for Mercedes-Benz. The latin skillz should come in useful.... Cheers! Rusty (Chris)

Re @Skaz: One of my cousins is gay. We're close. About a decade ago, he took me to a couple of gay bars in Montreal because I was curious (and I happen to like house music/electronica). The first time I went, the one thing that hit me was how different the whole scene was from what I had been expecting. I expected Police Academy-type leather-clad guys. Instead, I saw jocks, guys who looked like football players, guys in business suits and others who looked like guys I'd simply cross on the street. It was a pretty instructive way to demolish the image I had of gays.

RE: My Avatar My friend, I'm almost certain you have a sense of humor about it, but just in case, I’ll share this story with you. Once upon a time, I was a garbage collector and I worked in the Gay and Lesbian area in Toronto for four years. Every day was a good day in the ‘hood, and I will always have my memories of what a kind and welcoming community it was. Even though I was looked down on in many other parts of the city, I was treated with a great deal of respect by the Gay Community, and to this day I have a great deal of respect in return. So if you ever think I'm being a smartass or if I have offended you in any way thus far, please remember this little piece of my history and that with me it's all about fun, there is no hate here. Good Day, Sir.

Thanks so much for the comment regarding my past friend. Didn't mean to get maudlin, just came to mind because of the subject matter.

Hi, I'm using Joe 90 as I got some new glasses recently and everybody said "oh they're Joe 90's glasses". Not sure if you got the series in the US, we did in NZ. What commitment to find me on myspace! I'm also on facebook (isn't everybody?)
