Life hasn't always been about car drifting and kicking ass for Jason Statham. In fact, he has a whole past that none of us really knew about til now.

Since getting cast in The Meg, which I am 96% sure is based on true events, a few eyebrows have been raised about Jason's qualifications to take on any kind of prehistoric aquatic life. But now that we've seen clips from his time on the British National Swimming Team from the 80s and 90s (yeah, it's a thing), we understand completely why a movie of this caliber is right up his alley. He's been waiting for this his entire acting career.

Turns out, Jason wasn't just on the team. He competed in the 1990 Commonwealth Games. Check it out:

So if you're like me, you were more focused on the fact that Jason Statham was on a diving board soaking wet and wearing a speedo - not so much on the actual dives themselves. If you look closely, you'll see that he... well, he wasn't that great. His first dive was too far forward, his second wasn't much better, and his belly flop at the end received the all-time high score of 2.5. This must have been the day he decided to try acting.

Still, it wasn't all for nothing. Thirty years later, Jason is back in the water fighting the world's largest shark in The Meg, which may very well be a biopic about Meg Ryan. No one has told me otherwise, so... let me know in the comments if you find out.
