A male porn perfomer who goes by the name Shane Diesel is at the center of one of the satellite ethical quandaries that routinely stir the adult business. (The others include First Amendment concerns about revealing performers' personal information via required 2257 documentation, whether or not to let convicted sex offenders have anything to do with the industry, and suspect distribution deals).

Diesel is alleged to be the boyfriend of former performer Jessica Dee. Dee stopped acting in adult films when she contracted HIV last year and switched to directing for companies like Platinum X Pictures. As Diesel's purported connection with Dee has materialized on message boards like this one, porners are questioning the ethics of letting Diesel perform (sources say Diesel maintains his sex life with Dee is condom-only) as well as the ethics of companies who continue to hire Diesel. Diesel has not tested HIV-positive.

While performers in the adult indistry have a far lower rate of infection than the general population because of widely-mandated HIV testing, occasional HIV outbreaks and quarantines cast aspersions on an industry that is loathe to submit to federal oversight.
